One of Queensland’s largest annual festivals, the Airlie Beach Music Festival, has once again created a great opportunity for an up-and-coming Sunshine Coast original band.
Entries are now open for interested bands to participate in the Passport to Airlie Sunshine Coast Battle of the Bands competition to win a performance spot at the Airlie Beach Festival, which will be held from November 7 to 9 this year.
Backing up on the success of last year’s competition, which saw around 40 local bands give their best over four heats of band action at the Yacht Club in Mooloolaba, the competition will move to a new home in Marcoola at the Surfair Beach Hotel.
Host venue manager Andrew Daly says the Surfair is well known as the launching pad for so many great Aussie bands, including INXS, Midnight Oil, The Angels, Hoodoo Gurus and Powderfinger, who all played at the venue when they were starting out.
“We are excited to see what new talent may follow in the path of these great bands when hosting the Passport to Airlie right here on Sunday arvos at the newly renovated Surfair Beach Hotel,” Daly says.
Bands are encouraged to enter through the Passport to Airlie Sunshine Coast Facebook page as soon as possible.
Heats will be held every Sunday afternoon, with the final taking place on October 8. The festival has slots for all types of bands except metal genres.
